QMES Held a Cultural and Creative Products Competition

QMES held a cultural and creative products competition from July to September of 2022 so as to promote the cultural construction of QMES, to shape students’ sound personality, foster virtue and to enhance students’ ability to appreciate and create beauty. The competition follows the concept of sustainable development, and encourages students to use their professional knowledge and skills in Materials Science and Technology, track cutting-edge technological developments in the field to demonstrate their aesthetic creativity, and enhance their professional identity, sense of honor, and sense of belonging.

Students were enthusiastic about the competition. A total of 54 icon and object entries were received. In the preliminary competition, 9 teachers and students of QMES formed a panel of judges to evaluate the works online. They gave comprehensive scores from three aspects of subject, composition and design, and selected 20 works of icon items and object items respectively to enter the semi-final. QMES published the works to WeChat official account for online public voting. In order to ensure the professionalism and fairness of the competition, QMES invited Professor Wang Yongxin, Vice Dean of the School of Materials Science and Engineering, Professor He Feng of the School of Materials Science and Engineering, Professor Yu Suihuai of the School of Mechanical Engineering, Associate Professor Yu Jun of the School of Materials Science and Engineering, Associate Professor Chen Liling of the School of Mechanical Engineering, and Associate Professor Zhou Hongyi of the School of Mechanical Engineering to evaluate these works as the expert judges. Finally, 40 works were awarded, including 1 first prize, 3 second prizes, 5 third prizes and 11 excellence awards for icon items and object items respectively.

The competition gave full play to the role of cultural education, and many excellent entries demonstrated good design and innovation capabilities of students. The competition also improved students’ teamwork and hands-on ability, enhancing the cultural atmosphere of the QMES. QMES will continue to make these entries into various small cultural and creative objects that reflect the characteristics of QMES. In the future, QMES will continue to strengthen cultural construction, encourage students to give full play of their innovative ability and work together to create a image of JEI with profound cultural connotation.
